History

Sigma Phi Epsilon was founded November 1, 1901 in Ryland Hall at what was then Richmond College. The 12 original founders included in their charter "this fraternity will be different" hoping to cast away the normal conceptions of a social fraternity and create something new and better. Since then, SigEp has challenged the fraternity world as being a fraternity of firsts being the first national social fraternity to not discriminate based on race, the first to create a National Housing Corporation, and the first to have a chapter in all 50 states. SigEp challenges the "frat boy" image and takes a strong stance against hazing.
