History

Michelle Chan, Assistant Director of Academic Computing, initiated the group, according to The Captain's Log (Mar 15, 2006; "Students launch CNU's first news station") The newspaper quotes her as suggesting that it should serve as a cooperative research venture: "This project was assembled because I thought it would be nice to start an academic research group in which faculty and students could work together".

Additionally, Tang in her statement to CLOG appears to believe that it might break down a communication barrier she perceives to exist among students. "It's better for this campus I think[.] There's a gap in communication on this campus sometimes. This concept, I think, will give us a springboard to providing another outlet for communication and establishing a better link with campus events." This sentiment seems to be reflected in other contexts as well, for example, by The Hook and perhaps even by some members of CNUpedia.

On the outset, the starting members were:

  • Abbie Tang: Director of Content for The Navigator
  • Eric Harkins: Camera work, Anchor
  • Emily Schwab: Anchor
  • Chelsea Renner: Field Reporter
  • Andy Price: Post-Production Editing
  • Kristofer Ostergard: General Manager

Funding for equipment was provided by a grant.
