email system trouble
I seem to be having trouble with the email confirmation system. I gave it my PCSE account, but the codes never arrived in my mailbox. Any advice? (Is mail configured on the system yet?) -- TwoFlowers

Namespace Concern/Planning
I suggest we pull in the articles about the individual relevant members as parts of 344, using anchors if we feel the need to quick-link to them, rather than separate pages for each student. I'm not sure what our vision is for pages for students. Are we okay with every single student having their own page? How do we establish context, for example, when we wish to emphasize membership as for these girls being in the 344 group? Is there no namespace technique we wish to use, such as Student_[name]? - TwoFlowers
Not a concern
I don't think CNUpedia will get to large to manage and I don't mind every student having their own article. Even though they are associated with the 344 group, it may not be the only association. FREE PAGES FOR EVERYONE!
License
What is this being licensed under by the way? The GNU Free Documentation License? Public Domain?
Time setting
Is it too late to ask that the server be set to local time by default? It sorta skews the timing and dates for people who haven't calibrated their accounts -500 off the UTC. See meta for information. You probably want to use $wgLocalTZoffset = -5; If that works? I might test this on a private install at some point, if that would be more convenient?

- Huh? I haven't been doing anything about it. Did you take me up on my offer to test it on my machine? I didn't think so. It seemed like a fairly straightforward modification.
Please upgrade
There is a new version of MediaWiki out (1.5.6), which fixes some security flaws. I would strongly suggest that you upgrade ASAP. – ABCD 00:32, 6 February 2006 (EST)
Upgraded
Mediawiki has been upgraded.

What about the other wiki? It should be taken care of as well. -- TwoFlowers
Special Pages
Does anyone know how to pull variables from special pages? Such as if i wanted to put how many page edits there have been on the main page.
TwoFlowers replied,
- I'm not sure how helpful this is, but I noticed that you can get some variables off of magic words or variables. For example, the number of articles on this site is 147. The number of uploaded files is 92. Here's a reference to the keywords in the source code.

- Just to clarify... NUMBEROFFILES doesn't give the gross # of pages, but of articles that appear to legitimately have information in them (content pages). Notice the wording in the description used in Special:Statistics. As such I think it still serves your purpose... But just wanted to make sure you knew.
Guideline
I was thinking you should encourage people to look at the Discussion pages associated with articles before editing them. This probably counts as good wiki etiquette. Also, I was thinking we could maybe brew some new pages, that might be more useful in accomplishing the self-analysis that I am seeking for this site. Maybe something like
Guidelines for Editors or Wiki Etiquette and Guidelines

Problems and Errata of CNUpedia
That way everyone who contributes, directly related to IEEE or not, can be involved on discussing this site and what can be done with it. :-)
Of particular interest to me is navigational organization. As much as multi-linked webbing is nice, I think there are a number of other methods that might be worthwhile. Information getting scattered throughout many small pages isn't so big a deal because of transclusion (can probably make the edit link with a template), but figuring out navigation for people interested in categorical browsing might be something worth considering.
This kind of stuff would be neat to have granted a specific place for discussion.
Update
Wiki Etiquette and Guidelines has been established. It will feature a series of "consider the ..." topics, in which various factors (such as audience and other contributors) are discussed, and cautions and advice on responding to them are put forward.
Planning the Future of CNUpedia has been established. An initial suggestion has been posted by me. It is advised that anyone interested in forming a COI (Community of Interest) and the administrators keep an eye on this page in order to respond and add.
Edit Conflict
Looks like we might have our first case of a conflict between editors of what should be the phrasing. See Talk:CNUpedia. 'They' was put in, I removed, and it was put again. Rather than remove it again, I appealed for discussion. Let's see how it goes.

- I noticed you're now allowing uploading... but what gives? It's not working. Have you disallowed jpg and png image types or something?
- update: I tried it for music (mp3 type) as well, but even though it sent ack'd packets for most of my TCP stream, it gave me an error that it the file was 'empty'.

- It appears that image handling has reverted to its original condition. Still, could you address what was going one- were you merely trying to enable uploading of images, or what? The issue, though historic, deserves some kind of statement, I believe. After all this is our Page for Discussion with Administrators, isn't it? If not, could we establish an intentional channel?
