CNU FC or "Christopher Newport University Football Club" is the competitive soccer sports club at CNU. Founded in 2005, it is a college sports club that practices on the recreational fields behind James River Hall, and competes in matches and tournaments against other Virginia Schools.

History

CNU FC officially became a school-recognized club in 2005. The founding members decided to form the club after they had defeated the CNU Mens Varsity Team when competing in the Williamsburg Indoor Soccer League as the team "The Underdawgs". It was started by Phill Condrey (President), Steven Mohn (Vice-President), Jason Semko (Secretary), Scott Sicliari (Treasurer), and Senior Jeremey Wells.

Its First Season

CNU FC played four games its first official season. Having formed late in the season, and being underfunded (since it was a newly formed club), CNU FC only played against local schools such as William & Mary and Old Dominion University. Its first ever game was against William & Mary University's B-Team. CNU FC won 4-1. Afterwards CNU FC went on to win against Old Dominion 1-0, William and Mary A-Team 2-1, and William & Mary B-team (a second game) 2-1. So concluded the inaugural season of the club.

Its Second Season

CNU FC had a tough time coping with the loss of many of its players to Greek Life. Attendance at practice was at an all time low. Games were getting canceled, and the season had only brought one victory: The win 4-1 in their first ever home game against ODU. The next day, CNU FC played for the first time in a tournament at William and Mary. Although unofficial, this was the first case of consecutive games played, and it dealt CNU FC a first loss. Going against the W&M A-Team, CNU FC lost in a 1-0 stunner. Then, CNU FC played the University of Mary Washington Club team, where they tied the Eagles 3-3. Later in the season, in an exhibition match (which turned out to be its last match of the season), the CNU FC reserves lost 2-1 against the William and Mary B-Team. Adding insult to injury, practices were being outright canceled, and some founding members weren't even showing up to practice. Subsequent planned games were canceled, and, as a result, CNU FC was unable to attend the Virginia Club State Championship in Blacksburg.

Under new leadership however, CNU FC is taking a more strict view towards attendance in order to boost team unity and morale. The officers elected for the 2006-2007 school year are

President: Steven Mohn

Vice-President: Bret Danziesen

Secretary: Spencer Horner, Patrick Leong

Treasurer: Andrew Jackson
