What is Anime?

Anime are movies and t.v series, usually originating from Japanese culture, and often from the country. The implication is that a lot of anime are translated into English from Japanese.

It is identified by rather particular conventions of art style (for example, big eyes), sometimes by certain recurrent themes, and generally by a strong emphasis on emotion. Unlike cartoons, which as a group seek to be silly and are delegated as "childish", anime vary greatly and can be quite serious and deep.

Activites

The Anime Club meets every Wednesday from 7pm to 9pm in Gosnold Annex across from Einstein's for showings.

Since Fall 2006, the club has also begun hosting secondary meetings. They have not resumed yet but are expected to take place on Monday, at the same place and hour as the normal meetings.

The club also hosts CNUCon, an annual gathering of fans and supporters of Anime and related topics at the University.

The club also hosts marathons, that is, day-long showings of varied anime.

Current

We are watching Great Teacher Onizuka during the main club meetings.

The Club Council is meeting at 7pm on Thursday for club members that wish to participate. Meetings are on the second floor of the Student Union.

Public Library

The Club has been trying to build a library available to all members. The following are open to loan by any member (Other individuals interested in borrowing a title should consult with the club leadership). It is worth noting that the anime watched by the club is by no means limited to this library, but often draws from the private libraries of generous allies and members.
